Auto Optimization: Auto Rules [VIDEO]

With ultimate performance and ease of campaign management in mind, Go2mobi has released Campaign Auto Rules (aka GO2D2).

This means you are now able to set conditions that, if true, will automatically apply a blacklist or a whitelist. With the amount of traffic available through Go2mobi, this exciting feature can save you countless hours of manual optimization when used effectively!

The Campaign Auto Rules feature may be found on the Campaign Setup page. From there, you can apply Go2mobi pre-set Auto Rules, create your own Auto Rules, or apply/edit any Auto Rules that you’ve already created.
At a high level, the format of these Campaign Auto Rules are:

Look at (time window to evaluate)

          For (parameter)

                   If (data ><= value)

                   Then (Whitelist/Blacklist the parameter)

Evaluate the data every (frequency)

Look at (last 24 hours)

          For (Placements)

                   If (CTR < 0.05)

                   Then (Blacklist the placement)

Evaluate the data every (hour)

Your options for configuration include:

1. What window of data will be analyzed?

ie. whether this rule will be created from data collected for the period of the last hour of data, the last few hours, or the last few days, up to the last 7 days).

Typically, the more data collected the better when making rules, but keep in mind that if you start a brand new campaign that has no data - setting to "last 7 days" will mean you have to wait 7 days for data to come in before any rule can start to be made. However, if you are adding a rule to a campaign that has already been running for a long period of time it will have the data to start looking at as soon as you set the rule active.

 2. What parameter do you want to analyze?

There are currently four parameters to which you can apply these rules:

1. Exchange
2. Placement
3. Carrier
4. Device OS

3. What condition(s) should be true for a rule to be created?

This is your IF statement, and you can create as many as you want to. An IF statement has three parts:

  • What data points are you going to analyze? Spend? Clicks? Wins?
  • What operator are you going to use? Greater than? Less than? Equal to?
  • What values are you going set? How aggressive should you be?

Example: IF (Clicks > 100 AND Conversions = 0)

* Adding conditions is like saying AND (ie. IF this AND that..). If you want to say OR instead of AND (ie IF this OR that…), you can create separate rule sets and apply both to your campaign.

4. What should happen when those conditions are true?

You have two options here, whitelist or blacklist. The Rules-based Auto-optimizer is often most effective in an ongoing blacklisting strategy. Whitelists can be very effective on more established campaigns, after high-level testing is complete, as a means to isolate only the most desirable traffic.  Go2mobi typically does not recommend using whitelist rules on new campaigns, as this will prevent additional testing of traffic and could severely limit scale moving forward.

5. How often should this rule run?

ie. the frequency in which the data is analyzed to set this rule. Typically you are going to want to run this at the lowest frequency allowed by the system, but it may be more convenient to align this with the window you’ve defined and/or your typical manual review frequency.

Once you’ve created an Auto Rule, to apply the Auto Rule to your campaign, select it from the left window on the Campaign Auto Rules module of the Campaign Setup Page, and hit Add. Change the Status to Active on the applied rule and then hit Save.  Once saved, the Auto Rule will run on the next hour after hitting your defined frequency. So if you’ve got a frequency of “Every 12 Hours” and hit save at 1:35 pm, your Auto Rule will evaluate data between every 2 am - 3 am and 2 pm – 3 pm.
